How do I remove Norton antivirus before I install McAfee?

New computers often come with a free copy of Norton's antivirus. This is only a trial version unless you opt to pay for the full copy. You should remove the trial version before running the setup program.

To remove the Norton trial software take the following steps:

  1. Open Control Panel from the Start menu
  2. Select Add/Remove Programs (XP) or Programs and Features (Vista)
  3. Find 'Nortons Antivirus' or 'Norton Internet Security' in the list of installed programs
  4. Highlight it and then click the Change button, not the remove button
  5. Select 'Remove All' and follow the steps through until the computer restarts

If you have any difficulties uninstalling Norton, please visit Symantec's website where they provide a tool for dealing with such issues. You can find it on the Symantec website.
