Registering Your Computer

For all of the following processes you will need your Raven password. If you are a new student and you don't have your this then click the following link to pick up your new password. Existing students who have forgotten their passwords can pick it up here

Procedure for Windows Users

Wired

Click the button above to download our setup program. This program works only for XP, Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. Pre-XP versions of Windows are not allowed on the college network.

The setup program will:

  1. Run a virus scan
  2. Check for the latest Windows Service Pack
  3. Guide you to remove any trial copies of anti virus software, see our Norton FAQ for help
  4. Check for anti-virus software and install Microsoft Security Essentials if none is found
  5. Check for anti-spyware software and install Windows Defender if none is found
  6. Check for any banned peer-to-peer programs and remove them
  7. Check for a firewall and enable Windows Firewall if none is found
  8. Submit your application for a connection and automatically approve you

Wireless

Please ensure that you have a wired connection prior to attempting to set up wireless

We have an automatic configuration tool for Eduroam on Windows PCs. In order to use this, you'll need your Eduroam Token. Download the program using the button above and then input your e-mail address and Eduroam Token on the screen that it gives you and it will do the rest for you.

If you have any problems, contact the IT Department or an SCO for help.

Procedure for Mac Users

Wired

Mac computers must be checked manually by either the IT department or an SCO before being allowed onto the network. However there are some steps you can take to speed up the checking process:

  1. Ensure that Mac OS is set to automatically update
  2. Check that the firewall is enabled
  3. Install either VirusScan or ClamXav, both available for free
  4. Remove any filesharing or peer-to-peer software
  5. Submit your application for a connection
  6. Take your computer to an SCO or the IT Department to be manually checked

After following these steps your computer should be successfully configured for the College Network

Wireless

Please ensure that you have a wired connection prior to attempting to set up wireless

In order to set up wireless on Mac, you'll need your Eduroam Token. Follow the instructions below for your version of OS X and then input your e-mail address and Eduroam Token when prompted

OS X Lion

There is an automatic setup for eduroam available for download. It should be fairly self explanitory, however there is also a full guide available from UCS.

OS X Snow Leopard

There is a full guide on setting up eduroam on Snow Leopard available from the UCS.

OS X Leopard

OS X Tiger

Procedure for Linux/UNIX Users

Wired

Linux/Unix computers must be checked manually by either the IT department or an SCO before being allowed onto the network. However there are some steps you can take to speed up the checking process:

  1. Ensure that the operating system is set to automatically update
  2. Check that a firewall is installed and enabled
  3. Install ClamXav (or another suitable Anti-Virus program) and check that it is set to automatically update
  4. Remove any filesharing or peer-to-peer software
  5. Submit your application for a connection
  6. Take your computer to an SCO or the IT Department to be manually checked

After following these steps your computer should be successfully configured for the College Network

Wireless

Please ensure that you have a wired connection prior to attempting to set up wireless
