Robinson Library Catalogue (Heritage Online)
The library catalogue is available from terminals in the library and remotely via the Robinson web pages. It is best to check this catalogue first when looking for items in Robinson College Library as all items that we have in stock are listed here. It is much easier than trying to browse around the shelves, and Library Search (the University Library catalogue) only includes Robinson College Library books acquired after 2000.
Library Search is a new search facility that enables users to search all of the University Library catalogues and eresources databases as one search, instead of performing several searches on individual catalogues. Please note Library Search is still in beta format, therefore some items may not appear. It is also worth checking Newton, the University Library catalogue (see below) and Heritage online for items held in Robinson College Library.
It is worth emphasising that only around 14,500 out of the 54,500 volumes in Robinson College Library will be found on Library Search or the Newton catalogue. We started adding records in 1996, but it was not until 2002 that all new records were added, so it is always best to search Heritage online when searching for Robinson College Library holdings.
Cambridge University Library Catalogue (Newton)
This catalogue allows you to search the main University Library catalogue, its dependent libraries and most faculty, department and college libraries of the University and affiliated institutions
The catalogue is organised into 9 databases. You will not have access to all of the locations listed so it is best to select those databases that will display the results for the libraries that you are able to use, which are usually your department and faculty libraries, the University Library and Robinson College Library.
You can restrict your search to journals or electronic books by selecting the Limits menu on the ‘basic’ search screen, or by selecting one of the Filter search results options that are displayed when you view the results of your search

-
ebooks@cambridge
A database of hundreds of undergraduate texts which are available online. -
Cambridge Companions online
This database provides access to hundreds of books and essays in the humanities. It is the electronic version of Cambridge Companions series published by Cambridge University Press and all new titles are automatically added.
Journals
The University Library also provides access to thousands of electronically available journal titles, including:
Subject Databases
In order to find your way through the journal literature you may need to use the electronic databases, which are in effect huge indexes arranged by subject. Searching them will help you to find references to articles in journals on a particular subject. Your Faculty Library should be able to direct you to the most relevant databases in your subject area and library staff here will be pleased to assist you where possible. Some electronic resources may require passwords in order to access them, more information is available on the website
The University Library offers training course in the use of databases. Please see their Research Skills programme web pages for more information. http://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/courses
