Bursaries and Scholarships
University-wide bursaries and scholarships
For students at Cambridge University additional sources of financial support are available. The largest fund is the Cambridge Bursary Scheme. In 2008/2009, every new student who was awarded the full non-repayable maintenance grant by Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, Student Finance NI or Student Awards Agency for Scotland also qualified for a Cambridge Bursary of 3,250 per year. Bursaries of lower amounts were awarded to students who were assessed for lower levels of maintenance grant. Applications must be renewed annually.
There will be a similar bursary scheme, the Cambridge European Bursary Scheme, for EU students from 2010 entry. The maximum bursary for EU students will be set at the same level as for Home students and will be payable to students who can demonstrate that their household income is below £25,000 a year or equivalent. Bursaries of lower amounts will be awarded for students with higher household incomes on a sliding scale.
Overseas students are eligible to apply for scholarships and part-cost bursaries from the Cambridge Trusts. Application forms for these awards are sent by the College to all overseas applicants holding an offer for a place in the coming academic year. Applications must be made at this point; i.e. these awards are not open to existing undergraduates. These awards rarely cover the full cost of study and maintenance, but do run throughout a student's undergraduate course. The amounts awarded vary according to the financial circumstances of the applicant.
College Hardship Grants
As is the case for all Cambridge Colleges, students, including overseas students, who encounter unexpected financial hardship after their arrival are able to apply for targeted financial assistance administered by the College.
Organ and Choral Awards
The College participates in the University wide Organ Award and Choral Award scheme. Each year trials are held by the University in September.
