clic+ lecture series no 1 - Event Research
What do you need to think about before the planning and content stages of your next event? Putting time and energy into researching prior to your event will ensure a far more engaged audience and you are more likely to achieve your overall event objectives and return on investment.
In this session, we will explore how to go about researching for an event and the factors to consider. In addition to this and in the wider context of research in the Events Industry we will include initial findings from ground breaking research carried out in 2015 at nine European and USA industry events focusing on attendee participation and what this seems to be telling us about the most effective way to engage audiences now. One of the events included in this research was clic+ 2015.

Jackie Mulligan – Director of Enterprise and Principal Lecturer, UK Centre for Events Management - Leeds Beckett University
At clic+ 2015 delegates were invited to take part in a ground-breaking study on participant experience in 2015. Jackie conducted the same survey to participants at nine other industry events in the US and Europe,Jackie will share her preliminary findings at the first clic+ club event on Friday 20th May 2016 prior to publishing in February 2017. Jackie’s interim results will give us all food for thought when planning our next meetings and events and demonstrates how important research is as part of the event planning process for the overall delegate experience.
Richard John - Management and events consultant, industry trainer and event journalist.
When it comes to research and developing new events, Richard will explore the need to move from “seller” to “educator” by delivering effective knowledge-based live events, such as seminars and workshops. He’ll be sharing some ideas about branding and positioning events to attract the right audience, and discuss how to create a demand that is enough to attract a “hungry” audience.
Richard is Managing Director of RJA (GB) Ltd, based in the UK, with nearly 3 decades of sales, marketing, and management experience, working with a host of international organisations.He is recognised as a leading authority in the field of event management, training and consultancy.
In 1996 he was appointed as a Course Director for the Teaching Faculty at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Marketing, where he lectures on all aspects of exhibition and event strategy and marketing. He is a guest Lecturer on the Events Management programmes at Leeds Metropolitan University and University of Derby, a visiting Lecturer at Cologne University and EWS in Dresden and visiting Lecturer at the London University of the Arts. His articles on all aspects of face to face communication have appeared in more than 50 magazines and he is a regular columnist in a number of MICE magazines
