Corrections to IA Maths for Natural Sciences Tripos Answers

This document last updated 13 May 2024.

I'll list corrections to the main pdf documents here and incorporate them into the main pdf documents from time to time.

2002 II 12(b): the x = +/- 1/2 values I indicated should be x = +/- 1/sqrt(2). (Thank you to Hanzhang Shen.)

2003 II 7: for the last part, the powers should be 3/2 not 5/2 and the denominator should be 3 not 15. (Thank you to Hanzhang Shen.)

2004 I 5(b)(iv): should be e^(-1) not 1 - e^(-1). (Thank you to Hanzhang Shen.)

2004 II 2: should be 3 + the sum, not 3 - the sum. (Thank you to Hanzhang Shen.)

2004 II 8(a)(iii): the coefficient of x^6 should be -1/45, not -7/240. (Thank you to Hanzhang Shen.)

2005 I 7(b): When calculating b, I used a=0.4959 but one ought to keep an extra significant figure in that result when using it to calculate b, in which case one gets b=0.9368. (Thank you to Hanzhang Shen.)

2005 I 7(b)(iii): should be 3.237 * 10^25. (Thank you to Hanzhang Shen.)

2005 I 10(a): the bracket before e^ax should be (b - c) instead of (c - b). (Thank you to Hanzhang Shen.)

2006 I 2 last part: Hanzhang Shen has made me realise they probably meant how many solutions for (x,y,z) rather than the one solution for lambda, and if so then (x,y,z) is any scalar multiple of (1, cot theta - 5cosec theta, k) where k is any scalar, so two dimensions of infinitely many solutions.

2006 I 10(b): should be (-1/8)cos2x + (1/8)xsin2x + 1/8. (Thank you to Hanzhang Shen.)
