The Corbridge Trust in Robinson College began its work in 1988 following the realization of a benefaction by the late Clifford and Mary Corbridge. Clifford Corbridge was a British engineer who had worked in Poland before the war; Mary Corbridge, formerly Maria Patkaniowska, was born in Kraków and was a respected scholar of English.
Information for Scholarship Applicants
The aims of the Corbridge Trust are to promote academic exchanges between Polish and British universities. The Trust is administered by Robinson College, which together with other Cambridge colleges, forms an integral part of the University of Cambridge.
Awards are made to help Polish scholars pursue their academic interests or complete a research project during their visit to a British university and in particular, to the University of Cambridge. In awarding scholarships, trustees give preference to candidates who demonstrate a clear reason for wishing to make an academic visit to the U.K. Candidates who have made initial enquiries or have contacted departments carrying out research in fields related to their own and have obtained the support of their host department for their prospective visit will strengthen their applications. Help can be given in arranging contacts with persons or departments in the University of Cambridge, but for other universities it will be the candidate.s responsibility to arrange the visit.
The scholarship will cover the costs of accommodation (usually in Robinson College unless the candidate prefers otherwise) meals and incidental expenses for the period of stay in the U.K. Travel expenses will also be paid equivalent to the cost of one return air fare to the U.K. from Poland. Visits may be considered for periods of up to twelve months, but shorter proposals are more likely to receive funding. There are no restrictions with respect to the candidate's age or academic discipline. Regrettably, no provisions can be made for candidates to be accompanied by their families. Scholars supported by the Trust for visits to Robinson College in Cambridge will have access to the University Library, to Department and College Libraries, to the University Graduate Centre and will be entitled to make use of facilities at Robinson College, including the cafeteria.
Opportunities are also available for British scholars to visit Polish universities.
