What is formal hall?

Formal Hall takes place twice a week on Tuesday and Friday evenings during full term in the College Dining Hall. They are three course waitress-served meals where diners are seated throughout the meal.

Wine may be pre-ordered at the time of booking on the meal Booking Website.  The Bar also offers a good range of wine with 'wines of the week' at reasonable prices. Menus for both nights are displayed on the Formal Hall Menus page for each term.

The dress code for formal hall is smart casual and members of the college must wear their gowns. Dinner is served at 7:30 pm.

Tuesday Hall

Of the two, Tuesday is the less formal occasion . This is the night when clubs or societies should make arrangements to bring groups in if they wish, as the ratio of Robinson members to guests is not restricted. There is however a limit of 36 people in any one group. Larger parties than this should consider booking a private dinner/function. For more information, visit the Private Functions page. Friday Formal Hall

Friday hall is the more formal occasion and the Fellows of the college dine on a separate high table.

Formal Halls Bookings

Bookings for formal hall should be made on the meal booking website and the money is deducted from your EPOS account. There is a cancellation fee of £4.50 which is applicable if you cancel your place less than 48 hours from the time the booking closes, to cover order food and staffing.  Each college member is allowed to buy a maximum of four tickets (one for themselves and three guests), without seeking further permission.
