September Outreach Update

On 15th September, Robinson was part of the University Open Days. We welcomed hundreds of prospective students and their parents and guardians to Robinson, where they were able to have tours of the college led by our Student Ambassadors. Robinson participates in all the Cambridge University Open Days, and we are always open to visitors for self-guided tours, if you would like to drop in and see what we’re all about.

The next event was the STEP Prep Day, on 22nd September, led by Robinson’s Mathematics DoS Dr Chris Warner. The twenty participants, who all came from state-funded schools, were welcomed to Robinson for a day of Maths workshops and exam preparation to help with their applications to study Mathematics at highly selective universities. Student Ambassadors Peter and Philip also gave participants a guided tour of Robinson and led a Q&A session about student life. The STEP Prep Day is an annual event, so keep your eye out for next year’s sessions.

Finally, from 24th-26th September, Robinson hosted the second BME Residential, led by the Robinson College Students Association (RCSA) Racial Equalities Officers, Maya and Katiann. We welcomed twenty Year 11 students from ethnic minority backgrounds to the College, coming from all across the UK, from Gloucestershire to Leeds. They got to experience many different facets of life at Robinson, including college and city tours, fun evening activities, and free time to relax and get to know each other.

Photos in the gardenDr Scott Annett, Senior Tutor and English DoS at Robinson, delivered a lecture on the Medieval supernatural, and then attendees participated in a science workshop from the student-led collective Unlock Biology. At the end of the residential, Maya and Katiann, along with last year’s RCSA Racial Equalities Officers Arisa and Faith, spoke to participants about being a BME person in Cambridge, an important topic to round off some action-packed days. Robinson runs a variety of residentials and summer schools every year; take a look at our ‘What’s On’ page to hear about our upcoming events.

There’s plenty coming up in October too, with school groups visiting Robinson, and Robinson’s Outreach Officer Jenny will also be visiting schools in Wandsworth to give talks about Cambridge applications and life at university.
