Financial Support

Finances can be a major source of worry, particularly as a student. If you are stressed about money, having difficulty paying for expenses, or aren’t able to make the most of your time at Cambridge due to financial constraints, you can speak to the College Financial Tutor – there are more sources of support and funding than you might realise.

See the College Finance page for more information.

College Financial Tutor

As the Financial Tutor, Siôn Hudson is here to help you with any money difficulties you are facing whilst you are studying with us.  He is usually in College on Mondays during Term - appointments can be booked here: https://calendly.com/sph35-cam/30min

I was an undergraduate at Robinson (far longer ago than I care to admit!) so I know exactly what being a student here is like.  You are welcome to come and chat with me if you have any concerns that you might be in a bit of a financial squeeze, or even if you want some help budgeting and managing your money. The College offers hardship bursaries to help students who are particularly in need, and I manage and co-ordinate those applications.

Funding and bursaries available through Robinson include:

  • College Bursaries (Undergraduates & Postgraduates)
  • Book & Equipment Loan Fund (Undergraduates & Clinical/Veterinary Medicine Students
  • Student Activities Fund (Undergraduates & Postgraduates)

Two funds are also available through the RCSA:

  • Gender Expression Fund (Undergraduates & Postgraduates)
    • The RCSA has established a Gender Expression Fund for trans, non-binary, questioning, and gender non-conforming students to purchase items that they may need for their gender presentation including, but not limited to, binders, packers, wigs, breast forms, concealing underwear.
    • You can also be reimbursed for trips to and from Gender Identity Clinics for appointments during term time. This is entirely confidential. Please contact the RCSA LGBTQ+ Officer (lgbt@rcsa.co.uk) if interested in accessing the fund.
  • Prescription Scheme (Undergraduates & Postgraduates)
    • The RCSA is trialling a Prescription Scheme this year and will fund full reimbursement of the NHS prescription charge when paid by any Robinson Student (Undergrad or Postgrad). Please contact the RCSA Treasurer (treasurer@rcsa.co.uk) for more information, any questions, and to inquire about reimbursement.

The University also has financial help available to students – more information can be found here. Cambridge SU has collated a list of resources and list of funding sources for undergraduates and postgraduates. They also have a Student Advice Service through which you can seek advice on financial issues in addition to many other topics.
