A celebration of John Burnside, who while studying at Cambridge Technical College in the early ‘80s worked at Robinson as a gardener. He went onto become an internationally acclaimed poet, winning the TS Eliot Prize. This recital by brilliant singer Hannah Dienes-Williams and equally fabulous pianist Greg May will present The world in scent and touch, a cycle of four songs on John Burnside’s poems by Jeremy Thurlow, plus The Lunar Seas by Maddie Melville-Smith, songs setting poems by her fellow Robinson student Elsie Hayward. This concert is part of the regular Friday Recital Series, every Friday in termtime at 6.30pm.
Immediately beforehand at 6.00, also in the Chapel, students will be sharing a short informal reading of John’s poems. All are welcome! Admission to both events is free, no tickets required.
