On the 23rd and 24th of September Robinson College was delighted to host the third annual Women in Science Festival. The event was attended by students from schools across the county, including Robinson College's link areas of Gloucestershire, Swindon, Wiltshire and the London Borough of Wandsworth. Nearly a hundred delegates had the opportunity to stay in College accommodation, meet current students and leading female academics at the University ofCambridge, be challenged in academic sessions and take part in a the Science Fair. The students who participated in the residential and day events got a real taste of university life and hopefully were inspired to pursue their passion in STEM subjects.
During the festival our guests had the opportunity to chat informally with college teaching staff and current students about life as a science student in Cambridge and the admissions process.
Some of the visiting students also decided to present their work at the Science Fair, alongside Robinson graduate students. A panel of judges awarded prizes to the highly commended exhibitors .
There were also interactive sessions which involved groups of students in coordinated practical activities focusing on putting their scientific knowledge and imagination into practice with some astounding effects.
The Women in Science attendees left Robinson "buzzing", inspired to pursue their STEM-related interests. We hope one day that Robinson College or another of the University of Cambridge colleges will welcome them as Freshers soon and look forward to hosting more young women in science to Robinson next year.
