Teaching Interests
Tom works at Robinson as a College Teaching Officer in Mathematics with responsibilities in Outreach and Public Engagement. He holds weekly supervisions with first and second year undergraduate students in Vector Calculus, Mathematical Methods, Quantum Theory and Fluid Dynamics. He also works at the University of Oxford as the Public Engagement Lead at the Department for Continuing Education. He completed his PhD in Fluid Dynamics at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Prof. Paul Linden and obtained his undergraduate degree in Maths from the University of Oxford where he studied at St John’s College.
Other Interests
Alongside his teaching commitments, Tom runs an award-winning outreach programme through his website ’Tom Rocks Maths’ which hosts videos, podcasts, puzzles and articles that aim to make maths entertaining and understandable to all. Tom works with several partners including the BBC, New Scientist, and the Numberphile YouTube channel - the largest Maths channel on the platform with more than pi-million subscribers. With over 30 million YouTube views to date, 3 TED talks, 3 guest lectures at the Royal Institution, and a 3-week stint on Channel 4’s Countdown as the resident Mathematician, Tom’s work has reached millions so far, and will continue to reach millions more in the future.
