Please select the 'Named College + Faculty' ticket to attend the Robinson College Open Day in the morning, have lunch in College, then attend the Faculty Open Day in the afternoon.

This year, Robinson College is once again involved with the Mathematics Open Day. Morning sessions will be hosted at Colleges and the afternoon activities will be held at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS).

We are particularly excited to welcome Dr Tom Crawford to work on some of the sessions with us. You may know Tom from his YouTube or social media presence, @tomrocksmaths, or even from his recent appearance on Countdown!

Travel Costs for Participants

We strongly believe that everyone who wants to should be able to join the activities, no matter their socio-economic background. We will be able to assist eligible students with travel costs, as per our Travel Policy for Outreach Events. Students wishing to claim for cover of travel costs should email Kaz at outreach@robinson.cam.ac.uk

Timetable of Events

Below is a provisional timetable for the morning part of the day, hosted at Robinson College:

10:30 – 10:45 Arrival 

10:45 – 10:55 Welcome from Dr Chris Warner, Director of Studies 

11:00 – 11:30 Mathematics at Cambridge and Robinson 

11:00—12:00 A fun puzzle for you to try - bring paper and a pen.  Led by Dr Tom Crawford

12:00 – 12:30 Preparing for STEP and Interviews 

12:30 – 13:00 College Tour 

13:00 – 13:30 Brunch 

13:30 onwards: Walk to the CMS to join Faculty programme. Led by Dr Chris Warner

Afternoon Sessions at the Department

When booking your ticket, you will be able to select one of the following sessions to attend: 

Taster Session 1 2:00pm - 3:30pm (Centre for Mathematical Sciences, MR2)

Taster Session 2 3:30pm - 5:10pm (Centre for Mathematical Sciences, MR2)

The sessions are the same: each contains mathematical talks to give you a taste of maths at university, and an introduction to STEP. Please note that these sessions are only for students.

There are also the following activities in the Faculty, for which you don't need to book:

• A talk especially aimed at parents/carers, teachers welcome too, from 2:00pm - 3:00pm, repeated from 3:40pm - 4:40pm
• Interview practice with current students (MR5, students only)
• STEP practice with current students (MR4, students only)
• 'Drop in' with staff and current students (in the Central Core), for you to ask any questions you may have!

In addition to the in-person sessions, several recordings are available on the Faculty's YouTube channel, including mathematical talks and taster lectures, STEP workshops, and a mock interview.

The Open Day is a great way to get involved with preparing for Mathematics at University, and particularly learning and seeing what Mathematics at Cambridge entails. Everyone is welcome!
