Professor Krista Kesselring, Robinson's 4th Baxandall Visiting Fellow, delivered a fascinating lecture in the Umney Theatre last night 'The Jury, the Witch and the Shadow of Doubt: Witchcraft on Trial in Early Modern England.'

Krista challenged the audience when considering the Witch trials to identify with the ordinary members of the jury who often held back persecution through rational doubt rather than identifying with the victims. Krista spoke of a fascinating case study of one particular attempt to bring a woman to trial and how her local community saw her as someone who was an integral member of the community.

Our thanks to alumni Leigh Baxandall for funding this Visiting Fellowship and to Professor Amy Erickson, Professor Krista Kesselring's College host.
