Lecture synopsis: Robinson alumna Dr Susan Galbraith (Medicine, 1987) has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for cancer patients, first as a clinical oncologist and now as a drug developer. In this talk, Susan will share her career journey and learnings along the way, and cover the key trends that have the potential to transform cancer care. These include innovative modalities such as antibody drug conjugates, radioconjugates and cell therapies, novel combinations to produce deeper and more durable responses, and the need to intervene early to improve long-term outcomes and increase the chance of cures.
Speaker's bio: Dr Susan Galbraith is Executive Vice President of Oncology Haematology R&D at AstraZeneca, responsible for transforming the productivity and scientific output of Oncology R&D. Over her career, Susan has contributed to the development of 13 approved medicines. A Clinical Oncologist by training, she studied medicine at Manchester and Cambridge Universities and holds a PhD from the University of London.
In recognition of her contributions to oncology drug development, she has received an honorary Doctorate of Medical Science from the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and has been elected to the Academy of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).
Susan is a member of the Cambridge Cancer Centre Executive Committee and the Scientific Advisory Board of the ICR. From 2021 to 2024, she served on the AACR Board of Directors and is currently a member of the European Association of Cancer Research (EACR) Advisory Council.
