Around 380 undergraduates and 300 postgraduates. For men and women. Built in 1981, so much of the College is accessible. The College is very disability-aware, partly on account of its frequent conferences. A disability access audit has taken place. The College policy is generally to use the budget to meet access needs as they arise. Please discuss your requirements well in advance.

Smoking

No smoking in College building, including student rooms.   There are smoking areas provided on Front Court and Long Court.

Wheelchair-accessible rooms

One double room fully adapted for wheelchair users, with en suite bathroom and emergency alarm. One other partially adapted room for wheelchair users. Kitchen nearby. One room also adapted for students with visual impairments.

Other rooms

Most rooms in College have 3-5cm threshold at door. Adaptations can often be made according to individual requirements. Most rooms are en suite, although bathrooms generally are not very large.

Live-in assistants and assistance dogs

Adapted double room could possibly be used for live-in assistant, although there is pressure on accommodation so this is would be decided on an individual basis. Assistance dogs welcome, and a compound is available in which to exercise them.

Early induction and vacation stays

Early induction and staying over vacations is almost always possible, at usual room rates. Sometimes there is pressure on accommodation during vacation from conferences.

Catering arrangements

Most meals eaten in cafeteria, accessible via lift. Proximity card system for easy payment. Formal dinners take place in hall. Basic kitchens on all staircases, and near to adapted rooms.

Special diets

Special diets are usually no problem for formal dinners, but discuss with catering staff in advance. Plenty of choice in cafeteria.

College grounds in general

Ramped entrance from Grange Road. Work is underway to improve access from Adams Road and Sylvester Road. Mostly flat brick or paved surfaces around the College site.

College buildings in general

Two large lifts and walkways make most areas of the College accessible. Many rooms have a 3–5cm threshold at door. Some narrow corridors (65–77cm) and some heavy fire doors. Generally very accessible.

Bar

Level access through wide doors. Smooth and spacious, with moveable furniture. Some of the seating is on a raised 'stage' but most is accessible. Disabled toilet nearby, opposite Umney theatre.

Cafeteria

Lower ground floor. Access via lift. Smooth and spacious inside, with moveable furniture. Staff happy to help if necessary.

Chapel

Short ramp to entrance, through wide door. Smooth and spacious inside. Moveable chairs, with no fixed pews. No steps to altar. Disabled toilet outside entrance.

College offices

Level access to most College offices, including Tutorial office. Rather narrow, with 3–5cm threshold.

Common rooms

JCR near bar. Security keypad, which may be changed to proximity card system. Level access to TV room, through two sets of doors.

Computer facilities

Computer rooms are up four flights of stairs, with no lift. All rooms are networked and most areas have wireless internet access.

Dining hall

Lower ground floor, near cafeteria. Access via lift. Smooth and spacious inside, with moveable furniture.

Fellows' areas

Level access to SCR. All Fellows' areas fully accessible, including Fellows' rooms.

Gardens

Access currently via lift near Umney theatre, or via back entrance. Mostly level, and paths virtually everywhere.

Laundry

Downstairs, with no easy access. Other laundry arrangements may be possible if there is a problem.

Library

Level access to ground floor, via proximity card. Recently converted single passenger lift (small) to other floors. Staff will help where necessary.

Porters' Lodge and post room

Level access to Porters' Lodge. Post kept inside lodge.

Sport facilities

No gym. Shared sports fields with Queens' College.

Toilets

Disabled toilets near chapel, near bar, inside auditorium foyer and at bottom of seating, and in basement of seminar rooms.

Music room on first floor, accessed via lift.
Level access to auditorium from Front Court. Tiered seating, with wheelchair spaces at front. Disabled toilet.
Seminar rooms in basement, access via lift. Disabled toilet.
Two teaching rooms are accessible via lift and walkways. Other teaching rooms are up four flights of stairs, but suitable arrangements will be made.

Very good signposting permanently in place around College. Wayfinding is no problem.

Generally lighting is very good, particularly in chapel.
Lift has audio information and touch-buttons.

Induction loops

Induction loops in hall, chapel and main auditorium. Portable induction loop available in Porters' Lodge.

Alarms

Two or three visual and sensory alarms available.

Other

College is generally quiet, and most rooms softly furnished.
Good acoustics in auditoria.
