Robinson College News
29 May 2020

In this latest Lockdown briefing from Robinson, we're pleased to bring you Dr Andrew Sharkey's report on how Robinson's medical students have responded to the pandemic, including decisions that in many cases will affect their immediate and long-term futures. We are proud of our students’ resilience and their ability to adapt quickly to rapidly changing circumstances.

Tiara Sahar Ataii, a final year undergraduate student in MML, shared with us her experience of lockdown. In her short account she reflects on the importance of the friendships she has made at Robinson, and how these have helped her weather the sadness and loss that the pandemic has brought. As a founder of a student-led charity SolidariTee, Tiara also tells us about the determination of its members to carry on helping refugees who are at greater risk than ever before.

The pandemic has made us all aware that we can dramatically change our behaviour in response to existential risk. In his video from Nevada, Professor George Rhee (Natural Sciences - Physical, 1979), describes how the pandemic can be seen as a dress rehearsal for the climate emergency, teaching us much about how we can best respond to that arguably greater threat.

Back home at Robinson, we've been looking forward to the Reunion Weekend in September for those who matriculated in 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2010. With great regret, we are sorry to announce that the Reunion celebrations have been postponed because of the pandemic. We know how many of our Alumni will be disappointed, and hope to announce a new date as soon as we can. In the meantime, we hope you will be able to join us for a virtual reunion on 26th September. Keep an eye on your inbox for more details.

We have really enjoyed bringing you news of Robinson and its alumni, students and Fellows over the past few weeks, but as Lockdown loosens in the UK, we are moving to a monthly bulletin from Grange Road. We'd still love to have your stories, so please share them with us via

With very best wishes from all at Robinson,

Sarah, Catherine, Norbert and Helen
