The College’s Fellow Librarian, Professor Peter Kornicki, will be giving a talk on 3rd February in connection with the University Library’s forthcoming Samurai exhibition. In it he will unravel the mystery of the Japanese books that reached England during the 17th century - some of them are in the University Library while others are in Oxford. How did they reach England? Since there was not one person in England who could read Japanese at the time, why would anyone have been interested in Japanese books? Listen to the lecture and find out.
