Maitena Arakistain

Welcome to our newest Bye-Fellow Maitena Arakistain who joins Robinson today.

Maitena is a Professor of Civil Law at the University of the Basque Country. Her research focuses mainly on Succession Law and Family Law, although her teaching responsibilities cover all aspects of Spanish and Basque Civil Law. She has a particular interest in exploring issues from a Comparative Law perspective, having read her thesis on a comparison of the legal protection afforded to the surviving spouse and civil partner under English, Spanish and Basque Succession Law. She has also published on a range of Family Law issues, including, most recently, a paper exploring the approach of the Spanish courts to child contact arrangements in cases of domestic violence. Before entering academic life, Dr Arakistain lived and worked in the UK for nearly twenty years, where she qualified as a solicitor, working in private practice (Baker McKenzie), as well as for the UK Government Legal Service (Office of Fair Trading/Competition and Markets Authority and the Ministry of Defence).
