Robin Blake and Kiran Buzza in the final of the Take it to the Bridge band competition

Head down to Cambridge Junction on Friday 13 March to support Robinson 3rd Year student Robin Blake and alumnus Kiran Buzza in the final of the University’s popular music competition, Take it to the Bridge.  Robin and Kiran will be performing in the band AVA.  

They will go head to head for the coveted title in front of hundreds of students and local residents, as well as a judging panel of industry professionals including Sonita Alleyne OBE (Chair, Centre for Music Performance), Preye Crooks (Sony Music) and Matt Fincham (BBC Radio 1). The judges’ decision will be informed by an audience vote.

AVA are an indie band performing original music, with members Ava Fitzhugh (Newnham College), Robin Blake (Robinson College), Alex Jones (Queens’ College), Joe Parker (Clare College) and Kiran Buzza (recent graduate from Robinson College).

Rock band Den’s members are  Rowan Berkeley (Lucy Cavendish College), Finn Cullen (King’s College alumnus), Gus Lovell (King’s College) and Mured Summers (Queens’ College).

Lost Projects was part of the Centre for Music Performance’s Advanced Popular Performance Scheme in 2024-25.  Its musical style is influenced by a range of genres including pop, jazz rap and hip hop.   Its members are Naythan Win Aung, Julia Caligaris and Akorede Shonubi (all from Lucy Cavendish College), Mihir Abbineni (Christ’s College), Jessica Asiedu-Kwatchey (Christ’s College alumna), and Alex Williams (Homerton College).

Pulsar  members are Finlay Gerrand (Gonville & Caius College), Alex Jones (Queens’ College), Asbjorn Lorenzen (Christ’s College alumnus), Safi Tiotto-Smith (Clare College) and James Wang (King’s College). They perform an original instrumental fusion of Jazz and contemporary rock.

The four acts were selected to participate in the final after a hotly-contested first round in Michaelmas Term. The winner of the competition will be awarded an artist support package including professional studio time, a photoshoot, industry mentorship, as well as the opportunity to record and release two songs of release quality.

Previous winning acts include Iona Luke and her band in 2025, as well as Quasar and Daniel Daley Sextet, who had the opportunity to perform for an audience of thousands on the main stage of the Cambridge Club Festival. After scooping the 2024 Take it to the Bridge crown, lead Quasar vocalist Reece D’Souza said, “We’re so grateful to have won the competition and appreciate everyone involved in making the night what it was. Being up against the best of the Cambridge student bands was not an easy challenge but thankfully we came out on top, and we did it in style!”
