Andy and Lynne celebrate their Robinson work anniversaries

Congratulations to Andy Barker who recently celebrated his 40 year work anniversary at Robinson. Andy joined the College in August 1985, at just 20 years old, as a painter and decorator with Kevin & Alex. He had previously completed a 4 year apprenticeship with building firm Coulson and Son.
“I felt at home almost instantly as everyone was friendly and the College became a family to all. I worked as an assistant AVA for 6 years with Mike Howley. This was at the time the Umney Theatre was built and the College was getting starting to run more Conferences. I enjoyed meeting a few famous people, one special person was Princess Diana who came to one of the conferences. Then I moved back into maintenance and became decorator handyman, this time thanks to Gary Hollis and Richard Dring. I was taught carpentry and joinery as well as other things from the rest of the maintenance team. The opportunity to learn different skills has been a great help through my years at the College . In 1995 I meet Ginny who worked in the gardens and in September 1996 we married and we were lucky enough to have our Blessing at the College. Being part of Robinson College has been so enjoyable and when I say good bye in January 2026 I will be sad to go”.
Matthew Stokes, Head of Estates, said:
"Andy's integration and passion of service is inspiring, and his work over the last 40 years is evident in every corner of Robinson College. The tenacity and endurance required to meet such a milestone in a challenging built environment is something to be celebrated and admired."

Congratulations also to Lynne Freestone who celebrates her 20 year work anniversary.
"It really doesn't seem like 20 years. When I started in 2005, I was the youngest in the office, now I'm the oldest. Despite changes of staff over the years, the Robinson community really does feel like a work 'family' and a second home.
On my then colleague, Jackies' retirement, around 6/7 years ago, I inherited the responsibility of our annual staff Christmas Raffle. A yearly task I take very seriously and the fact no-one wants to take it from me, I take as 'veiled' compliment. Most people who know me, know that I always try to have a laugh at work too".
