During the recent episode of Making History on BBC Radio 4, Dr David Woodman talked about Eilmer, a Benedictine monk from Malmesbury Abbey in Wiltshire Cotswolds who attempted the first recorded flight in England. Eilmer jumped from the Abbey's tower and with the help of wings glided over 600 ft in the air.

You can listen to Dr Woodman and the fascinating story of the flying monk here.
