Research at Robinson College

One of the highlights of the last academic year was the MCR/SCR Research days.  Run jointly between Dr Brian McCabe and our MCR/SCR members the research days showcase a diverse range of research topics within the Robinson community.

Topics this year ranged from: “The Age of the Queer Witness: Holocaust Testimonies across National Borders” (Dr Orsolya Katalin Petőcz), “Advancing Alzheimer’s Diagnostics with On-chip Calibration of Organic Electrochemical Transistor Biosensors” (Stefany Kissovsky) to “Trusted Turncoats: Loyalty in Medieval Japan” (Ben Palmer-Welch).

“I am truly honoured to be involved in organizing our Robinson Research Day as well as present my research. Not until Research Day did I come to discover that our college has so many amazing researchers keen on artificial intelligence and medical technologies. I cannot wait for next Research Day and I genuinely look forward to more interdisciplinary involvements!” Zihan Ni, Academic Affairs Officer.

Thank you to all involved in the organisation and presentation of these illuminating days.  If you’re interested in getting involved next year do get in touch with Dr Brian McCabe.

Feedback from our speakers

Hannah Claus

I’m honored to have the opportunity to share my research on LLMs for low-resource languages at the Robinson College Research Day. I want to make AI accessible to everyone, and we need to start by having these conversations with as many people as possible. I’m thrilled that my college gives me the platform to do that.

Stefan Mitikj

It was an honour to present my research on Chinese politics at Robinson College MCR Research Day. Engaging with fellow researchers and receiving thoughtful feedback made for an intellectually rewarding and inspiring experience.

Juri Yo

Robinson Research Day was a wonderful opportunity to share my work and connect with fellows and college mates across disciplines. The supportive and intellectually curious atmosphere made the experience both inspiring and enjoyable. I left with new ideas and a sense of belonging to Robinson.

Rose Bramley

I found the research day helpful as thinking about how to present to non-experts made me think critically about my own research, but it was also really interesting hearing about research from a range of subject areas that are different from my own. It was a really wonderful day!

Anoushka Rao

Attending and presenting at Robinson’s Research Day not only invigorated my appreciation for my peers’ work, but also our collective curiosities for pursuing the unknown and improving the world around us. I was especially moved to see that my own passions for culturally sensitive care and health equity were matched with a multidisciplinary curiosity from members of the Robinson community.

Ben Palmer-Welch

Events like these are a true highlight of the academic calendar, with a full house of postgraduate researchers and tenured fellows alike coming together from a diverse range of fields to discuss their passions and novel academic insights. The whole day was a fantastic reminder of the unparalleled value and pure joy that comes with interdisciplinary exchange! :)

Calvin Preston

The day presented me with a great opportunity to share my research on dark matter astronomy, whilst also learning about the breadth of subjects being pursued by other members of the MCR.

Okam Miracle

The joy of every researcher is to be heard, read, and to contribute significantly to society. The Robinson Research Day was an opportunity to experience this. To have an engaging audience is the best encouragement to emerging scholars.

Stefany Kissovsky

It was an honour to share my research on Alzheimer's early diagnostics with the vibrant Robinson College community and at the same time learn so much from the inspiring interdisciplinary work of fellow Robinson MCR researchers. The talks were impressive and I enjoyed so much the fruitful discussions they led to as well as sharing the exciting potential of technology to innovate Alzheimer's research and early detection.
