Congratulations to Robin Blake and Kiran Buzza (alumnus) who have been awarded places on the Advanced Popular Performance Scheme - band pathway (AVA)

34 students from 12 colleges will have the opportunity to supercharge their musical careers having been selected as participants on the Centre for Music Performance’s Advanced Popular Performance Scheme, an expanding initiative that fosters excellence in popular music at the University of Cambridge.

In a sign of the growing impact the scheme is having, five bands have been selected to join this year's band pathway (up from four last year): DEN, Lost Projects, Pulsar, AVA and Cash Only. They will benefit from intensive coaching, tailored to their individual style, from leaders in the field.
AVA are an indie band performing original music, with members Ava Fitzhugh (Newnham College), Robin Blake (Robinson College), Joe Parker (Clare College), Alex Jones (Queens’ College) and Kiran Buzza (recent graduate from Robinson College).

All members of the Scheme will have the opportunity to perform in gigs organised by the Centre for Music Performance. The first gig will be on 3 December at 7pm at the Six Six Bar.

Professional mentoring and support has long been offered to classical instrumentalists and singers at the University of Cambridge. APPS allows popular music-making students to access these provisions too, helping the most promising student acts to reach their full potential.
