The Management Studies Tripos is a one year course that students take in their final year, though currently this can be either their third or fourth year. You cannot apply to Cambridge to take Management Studies, and hence you would need to apply and be admitted to read another subject for the first two or three years. It does not matter which subject that is.
There are no college quotas for Management Studies, but the Judge Business School, which teaches the course, places a restriction on total numbers across the University. This means entry to the course is competitive and there is no guarantee that you will be able to take it, even if you are accepted by another subject for your first two or three years. The general academic requirement for entry is solid upper second grades in your first two or three years.
