Calling prospective students from the EU: applications now open for the William Waite Scholarship in STEMM

We are delighted to invite applications from prospective students from the EU for the William Waite Scholarship in STEMM.
The William Waite Scholarship was established by Claudio Corbetta (Mathematics, 1991) in honour of Mr William Waite, an inspirational mathematics teacher who played a pivotal role in mentoring Claudio from his early education in the UK through to his studies at Robinson and beyond. Claudio explains that he created the scholarship: “to make education more accessible and empower deserving students to achieve their dreams—just as Mr. Waite did for me!”

Dr Claire Wilkinson, Admissions Tutor at Robinson College, added: “The William Waite Scholarship is intended to support EU students who have the potential to thrive at Cambridge but are held back by financial constraints. The scholarship is about more than just financial support—it opens the door to all that Robinson College, and the wider University of Cambridge, has to offer, including a vibrant community and a wealth of extracurricular opportunities in sport, drama, music, and beyond.”

Find out more including details on how to apply for the William Waite Scholarship.

'Time for a Poem' with Dr Lizzi Rawlinson-Mills

A group of local teachers recently met at Robinson with Dr Lizzie Rawlinson-Mills to discuss poetry teaching and plan a collaborative research project which they’ll be undertaking in their individual schools over the next two or three months.
The 'Time for a Poem' research is supported by Robinson’s Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences research fund, with some additional funding from the Faculty of Education.

Emeritus Fellow, Dr Judy Weiss, and Prof. Neil Cartlidge, have co-translated Ipomedon (Boydell and Brewer 2025) - a twelfth-century romance in Anglo-Norman by a witty poet in Herefordshire.

Ipomedon offers the first modern English translation; it also provides explanatory notes, and a full introduction, discussing the author, its audience, dating, sources and analogues, themes, humour and narrative style. It will make this important text, of great interest to medieval romance studies, available to a wider audience. Find out more.

ALUMNI NEWS

Nawaz Peerbocus (Sustainability Leadership, 2019), writes: "As a proud Robinson College alum, I am currently leading the United Nations Development Programme's Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking (FAST) Global Study on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.

"This flagship initiative investigates the scale of public, private, and philanthropic investments aimed at combating modern slavery—and critically, the vast gap that still remains. Our work is mapping financial flows, identifying barriers to funding, and building the business case for scaling investments to protect vulnerable populations and dismantle exploitative systems. It is a unique effort that blends data, policy, and finance to catalyze global action

"The study is engaging voices from across development, finance, civil society, and the private sector, and we invite Robinson alumni from all disciplines to get involved—whether by sharing insights, research, or simply following the journey."
