Helena Mennie Shire

Helena Mennie Shire (1912-1991, literary scholar) was a Founding Fellow of Robinson and had a particular interest in the poetry and music of Scotland 1500-1700. An exhibition relating to her life and work, curated by Joan Bullock-Anderson (Freelance Archivist), and Judith A Brown (College Librarian), was on display in the College Library during the Lent and Easter Terms 2021. Fewer people than usual were able to view this because of the pandemic, so it has now been published online as a Flickr album.

The photograph shows her wearing her silver cross for services to the Polish Republic, presented to her by the Polish Consul General during a visit to Robinson College in 1991 [Archive ref. RCPP Shire 1/7].
