Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic

The Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic Tripos (known as ASNC) offers a unique opportunity to study the history, languages and literatures of the peoples of the British Isles, and Scandinavia, mainly in the early medieval period. It is unique in that there are few other courses which allow you, for example, not only to study Anglo-Saxon history, but at the same time to be able to read - in the original - the writings of the Anglo-Saxons, and of their neighbours the Irish and Welsh, as well as studying the handwriting of the manuscripts which these peoples have left us.

As part of the University-wide July Open Days, Robinson College runs a number of activities. You must register for the July Open Days via the central University website to visit Robinson on the Open Days.

Guided Tours

Guided tours will be led by our Student Ambassadors. They are a great way to learn more about the Robinson community and the facilities that students use.

Commander George Coupe

This first item is offered as a tribute to Commander George Coupe, who played a key role in Robinson College for nearly thirty years. Appointed initially as Secretary to the Robinson College Trustees in July 1975, he was then successively Warden’s Assistant and Junior Bursar, becoming Archivist in ‘retirement’ from 1991-2003. The photograph was taken in 1979 and shows George (centre), marking the topping out ceremony of the Robinson buildings in the traditional way, together with Andy MacMillan (left) and Isi Metzstein (right) of Gillespie, Kidd and Coia, the architects.
