We hope you will find the information contained in this guide useful. If you require any further help or advice please contact the Porters’ Lodge which is open 24 hours a day and can be contacted on 01223 339100.
You are welcome to walk in the College gardens which can be accessed via G staircase or the Umney Foyer. The gardens contain a number of interesting and unusual trees and plants, both native and exotic. A guide book to the plants in the garden can be purchased at the Porters’ Lodge.
The shower over the bath is operated by turning on the bath taps and pressing down hard on the ring around the shower hose where it meets the taps. To turn the shower off press the ring down again.
Please ensure that the shower curtain is kept inside the bath at all times when the shower is being used. CAUTION - please note that excessive steam might possibly trigger the fire alarm.
Bedmakers (cleaners) will enter bedrooms DAILY, except Sundays, between 09.00 and 13.00 to service the room, make the bed, empty bins, clean bathrooms etc.
Breakfast is available in the Garden Restaurant between 7.30am and 9.00 am. The entrance to the Garden Restaurant is down the steps opposite the Bin Brook entrance. Where self-service meals are provided, a system of self-clearing will be in operation. Please deposit your tray and dirty crockery in the trolleys provided.
Should you lose or damage your room key, there will be a charge of £30
ON THE DAY OF DEPARTURE VISITORS ARE REQUESTED TO VACATE BEDROOMS AND RETURN KEYS TO THE PORTERS’ LODGE BY 09.30. A charge may be made for any keys that are not returned.
If you require a taxi on departure please order this in advance at the Porters’ Lodge, preferably the evening before you leave.
Irons and ironing boards, hair dryers, non-slip bath mats are available from the Porters’ Lodge.

Shaver socket outlets provide 115 or 230 volt supply. Very occasionally there might be a power failure to the sockets in your room. If you suffer from a power failure please contact the Porters’ Lodge who will endeavour to reset the power for you.
If there are any faults or maintenance issues within your room please report these to the Porters’ Lodge who will ensure that the appropriate departments in the College are informed and issues are rectified.

The heating in your room is regulated by the control found usually on the right hand side of the radiator. Turn the control fully anti - clockwise to open the valve and turn the heating on. Turn it clockwise to turn the heating off.
The College has no resident medical staff. In case of illness (or accident) the porter on duty will advise on how to obtain medical assistance.

How to connect:
Connect to the RC-Wifi wireless network or for wired connections plug your ethernet cable into the computer, and into the left-hand socket (there are 2 sockets on a single wall plate in each room) (Ethernet cables can be purchased from the Porters Lodge).
Open a web browser (Edge, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firebird, etc) and try to go to any webpage i.e. http://www.example.com
You will be directed to a web page choose the ‘I am a Conference Guest/Visitor’, and enter your details and agree to the terms and conditions.

Internet Access: Conditions of Service Provision.
• An Internet connection is provided as part of our standard service.
• The type of activity this network is designed to provide is access to email, and general internet usage. You will not be able to send email using a program requiring SMTP transport. All forms of web-mail (Outlook Web Access, Gmail etc.) will work normally.
• The service is provided without Technical Support, and on a best-efforts basis. If you find you are unable to reach the Internet via this network connection, please report it via the Porters’ Lodge or helpdesk@robinson.cam.ac.uk . We will endeavour to ensure that any problems with the service are promptly fixed during business hours. Any problem originating from an individual’s device is outside the remit of the IT Department.
• You are agreeing to Robinson College IT Department maintaining records of your usage, this data may be used by us for troubleshooting purposes, and may be referenced in case any security threat or wrongdoing is traced by us or by third parties to the Robinson College Network.
• Robinson College accepts no liability for any loss of or damage to data that may occur as a result of your use of this Internet Connection.
• You are responsible for the security of your computer while it is attached to this network, and you accept responsibility for any consequences of your computer becoming compromised whilst connected to this network. You are advised to ensure that your computer:
o has all available security updates installed
o has personal firewall software installed
o has fully updated virus protection software installed
o has no Peer to Peer software such as BitTorrent in operation
Whilst there is no intention of charging guests for the bandwidth consumed by individual users, you must be aware that the College is subject to bandwidth charges for all of its usage. If your computer is observed to be generating exceptional levels of traffic, then the College may pass the associated costs on to you.
Information showing the escape route is posted in every room. Please read these instructions carefully when you arrive and familiarise yourself with the arrangements described.
There is a laundrette and ironing room. Irons can be obtained from the Porters’ Lodge. Please speak to the Porters for further assistance.
There are lifts located on K and Q staircases which access the lower ground level (Dining Hall and Garden Restaurant) as well as the upper levels (staircase bedrooms). If you need assistance please ask at the Porters’ Lodge.
Any lost property will be deposited at the Porters’ Lodge and will be stored for three months. The porters will attempt to contact the owner of any expensive/valuable items, and any identifiable property in order to return them. Consumable items, such as shampoo, will be disposed of. Please note the College does not accept any responsibility or liability in respect of loss or damage to any property brought on to the premises by or on behalf of any persons.
There are always some members of the College, senior and junior, in residence all the year round, whose rooms may be near to those occupied by visitors. Your co-operation is requested in keeping noise, especially late at night, to a minimum. Unfortunately the College Library is not available for use by conference delegates.
The Porters' Lodge (where you collected your room key on arrival) should be your first port of call in any emergency. If you are not sure who to contact if you for example need an extra pillow, or the light in your room does not work, go to the Porters' Lodge and they will pass your message on. They carry a supply of maps, first aid, can conjure up taxis out of thin air for you and are a source of valuable local information. The alarm in your room will not be switched on upon arrival; this is to continue following our sustainable practices around the college. Instructions for setting the alarm can be found below, should you wish to use it.

Open all day for light food and hot and cold beverages with a bar operation in the evenings from 18.00 to 23.00, if there is a conference in the College. The Red Brick Café Bar is situated on Long Court, conveniently located in the heart of the College and open throughout the day, with large flat screen TV, daily papers, comfortable sofas and a cosy environment, this is the ideal hub to gather and catch up.
The Red Brick Café is normally open on weekdays (10.30-17.00). The RBCB is run on a cash basis. Credit cards are accepted in the Bar (minimum spend £10).
YOU ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO ENSURE THAT THE DOOR IS LOCKED AND WINDOWS ARE CLOSED WHENEVER YOUR ROOM IS UNOCCUPIED.
Do your towels need laundering or can they be used again? Please decide for yourself
• ‘I will use them again’ – Towels hung on rail
• ‘Please replace them’ – Towels in the bath
Each room is fitted with a tilt and turn window. To operate:
• Release locking knob
• Turn lever handle through 90º to open as a door
• Turn lever through 180º to tilt as a window

In the interests of security please make sure that the safety chain on the tilt and turn window is in place.
